Meet Mike Lester
Mike Lester is the 2007 recipient of the Sigma Delta Chi Award given by the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 Mike Lester was awarded two first place and one second for the best original editorial cartoon by the National Newspaper Association. In 2004 Georgia Trend magazine listed him in Who’s Who in Georgia Media. In 2003 Mike was selected by the Georgia Press Association for Designer of the Year honors.
Mike has been the editorial cartoonist for the Rome News-Tribune in Georgia since 2002. His prior newspaper credentials also include five years with the Atlanta Journal Constitution as the Sunday Op/Ed illustrator and section designer. For over 20 years he has created images and illustrations for the ad campaigns of many major corporations — Anheuser-Busch to Zebco — as well as illustrating for many national magazines, writing and illustrating numerous children’s books, and other games, gifts and licensed products. His editorial work is syndicated by United Features Syndicate and covers the range from local and state to global issues. He is represented commercially by Will Sumpter Associates.
His children’s book, “A is for Salad”, made The New York Times Top 10 list and was named Best Children’s book of 2000 by the National Cartoonists Society. His animated cartoons for Celebrex garnered Best Advertising award from the 2004 National Cartoonists Society.
Mike was born in Atlanta in 1955 and graduated from the University of Georgia. He’s the proud father of two children, Grady and Hope, and currently resides in Rome Georgia with his lovely wife, Regan, and their cats, Roy and Charlie…

You’re an idiot…your latest cartoon of the president is not funny nor thought provoking, it’s an insult. Instead of partially covering the bird in oil, you drew it into a little black sambo caricature then gave the bird your version of black slang, “chill playa” WTF. Why couldn’t you have placed the sign on the president’s back instead of sagging his pants, like a hip hop artist with the boxers showing….yep, you’re an idiot!
